Academics from around the world to present historical findings of life in German-occupied Poland during World War II 25 speakers from six countries! Ten congressional offices! Two embassies!

LOS ANGELES, Oct. 21, 2019 /PRNewswire/ — POLAND FIRST TO FIGHT will take place at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C. from November 18-20, 2019. The conference, organized by several Polish-American and Polish expat organizations such as Polish Media Issues, Polish American Congress of Southern California, Coalition of Polish Americans, Polish American Strategic Initiative and Polonia Institute, commemorates the 80th anniversary of the outbreak of World War II (www.iPoland.org).

The conference will gather historians, museum curators, educators, politicians, journalists, filmmakers, publishers and government officials. Leading scholars and filmmakers from Poland, Germany, United States, United Kingdom and India will present information about life in German-occupied Poland and shed light on the policy of subjugation, exploitation and extermination of Poles under Nazi German and Soviet occupations.

The Program Committee Chair is Professor Marek Kornat from the Institute of History of the Polish Academy of Sciences who will talk about the geopolitical context of the Ribbentrop-Molotov Pact. The keynote speaker will be Professor Mieczyslaw Biskupski. Professor Krystyna Zamorska, daughter of a prisoner of the concentration camp KL Stutthof, will present the history of German concentration camps in German-occupied Poland. Professor Bogdan Musial will explain the system of murderous repression imposed by the German occupants on Poles rescuing Jews. Dr. Rafal Latka will portray the situation of the Polish Catholic Church during World War II.

Professor Sean McMeekin will present information regarding the betrayal of Poland, an important war ally of the United States, by US President Franklin Delano Roosevelt. Prof. Norman Domeier from Germany will talk about the collaboration between Nazi Germany and the Associated Press.

Professor Danusha Goska will talk about the negative portrayal of Poles in American pop culture. Marcin Makowski, one of the most talented Polish journalists of the younger generation, will discuss the World War II narrative in computer games. US film director Stacey Fitzgerald and dozens of other prominent scholars, writers and filmmakers will follow with rich, sometimes shocking, historical presentations.

Międzynarodowa Konferencja Historyczna „Poland First to Fight”
18-20. listopad, 2019, Washington, DC

W dniach 18-20 listopada odbędzie się w prestiżowym National Press Club w Waszyngtonie międzynarodowa konferencja historyczna „Poland First to Fight”. Konferencja jest organizowana w związku z przypadajacą w tym roku 80-tą rocznicą wybuchu II Wojny Światowej.

Będzie ona nie tylko wydarzeniem rocznicowym, ale także okazją do przypomnienia tych kart z historii Polski, które w szczególny sposób ulegają deformacji i zapomnieniu. Stanowić będzie ona odpowiedź na negatywne stereotypy, narracje, mity i oskarżenia pod adresem Polski i Polaków, które pojawiają się w przestrzeni publicznej Stanów Zjednoczonych i krajów Zachodu. W trakcie konferencji goście będą mieli okazję poznać realną sytuację, w jakiej znalazła się Polska podczas ostatniej wojny, niezwykły heroizm i tragedię Polaków (Polskie Państwo Podziemne, Powstanie Warszawskie, system pracy przymusowej w Niemczech, Generalplan Ost, wywózki na Syberię, Katyń), a także polski wysiłek militarny i wkład w zwycięstwo alliantów nad Trzecią Rzeszą.

Przewodniczącym Rady Programowej jest Profesor Marek Kornat z Instytutu Historii Polskiej Akademii Nauk i Uniwersytetu im. Kardynała Wyszyńskiego w Warszawie. Konferencja będzie miała charakter międzynarodowy. Referaty wygłoszą historycy i goście m.in. z Polski, Niemiec, Indii, Anglii oraz ze Stanów Zjednoczonych. Uczestniczyć będą także weterani wojny i ich potomkowie.

Internationale Historische Konferenz „Poland First to Fight“. Washington DC

November 18-20, 2019, National Press Club, Washington, DC

Im Zusammenhang mit dem 80. Jahrestag des Ausbruchs des Zweiten Weltkriegs findet zwischen dem 18. und 20. November 2019 im renommierten National Press Club in Washington die internationale historische Konferenz “Poland First to Fight” statt.

Polen wurde am 01.09.1939 durch Nazi-Deutschland und am 17.09.1939 durch Sowjetrussland  angegriffen. Die beiden Mächte haben im geheimen Protokoll zum Ribbentrop-Molotow-Pakt vom 23.08.1939 ihre Einflusszonen definiert und Zentral- und Osteuropa unter sich aufgeteilt. Der Pakt erleichterte dem Dritten Reich den Blitzkrieg gegen Polen und war zugleich eine Carte Blanche für Stalin, Polen vom Osten anzugreifen. Die Untätigkeit von Großbritannien und Frankreich nach dem Ausbruch des Krieges ebnete den Weg für einen globalen Konflikt. Großbritannien und Frankreich haben nämlich ihre Garantieerklärung Polen gegenüber im September 1939 gebrochen. Jene Garantie sollte Polen die Versicherung des Beistandes in jeglicher Form geben, sollte eine Situation auftreten, in der Polen zur militärischen Verteidigung seiner territorialen Unversehrtheit gezwungen wäre. Die Hilfe blieb jedoch aus und der Krieg entwickelte sich zu der größten Tragödie des polnischen Volkes in seiner 1000-jährigen Geschichte. Nach 6 Jahren Krieg waren 6 Millionen Polen tot, darunter 3 Millionen polnische Juden, und weitere 6 Millionen auf der Flucht oder im Exil. Das Land wurde zerstört und durch den erneuten Verrat der Alliierten im Februar 1945 in Yalta, wehrlos Stalin ausgeliefert. Über 40 Jahre Kommunismus folgten.

Die Konferenz “Poland First to Fight”, zu der renommierte Wissenschaftler, Filmemacher, und Schriftsteller aus Deutschland, Großbritannien, USA und Polen eingeladen wurden, wird den außergewöhnlichen Heldentum und Kampfwillen der Polen, aber auch die Tragödie des polnischen Volkes, den polnischen Untergrundstaat, den Warschauer Aufstand, das Zwangsarbeitssystem in Deutschland, welches 3 Millionen Polen ausgebeutet hat, den Generalplan Ost, die Deportationen nach Sibirien, das Katyn-Massaker und den Kampf der Polen an der Seite der Alliierten gegen das Dritte Reich zeigen.

Die Veranstaltung ist eine Bürgerinitiative der polnischen Diaspora in Zusammenarbeit mit polnischen Historikern. Vorsitzender des Programmkomitees ist Professor Marek Kornat vom Institut für Geschichte der Polnischen Akademie der Wissenschaften und der Universität von Kardinal Wyszyński in Warschau. Die Zielgruppen sind neben Historikern, Archivaren und Museologen auch Journalisten, Politiker, Mitarbeiter der Bildungsabteilungen, Herausgeber und Vertreter der Filmindustrie.

Die Organisatoren laden herzlich zur Teilnahme an der Konferenz im National Press Club in Washington ein. In Zeiten von Fake News ist es enorm wichtig, die unverfälschte Geschichte des Zweiten Weltkrieges gemeinsam zu bewahren und die künftigen Generationen vor Konsequenzen des Hasses zu warnen.
